Bromley 3-1 Gillingham XI

Bromley progressed through to the Kent Senior Cup Quarter Finals with a solid win over a young Gillingham team in an entertaining game at Hayes Lane.

The game started with both teams looking to attack, Moses Swaibu had a header saved while The Gills went close through Jake Hessenthaler and Jake Haysman who both had efforts saved by George Howard.

The Ravens took the lead on 23 minutes when Harry Harding sent in a deep cross for Aaron Rhule to head back across goal and Michael Malcolm to bundle in from close range.

The visitors drew level on 41 minutes when Howard brought down Haysman in the box and Jack Evans smashed home the spot kick.

Harding went close again for Bromley just before the half.

The second half started slowly, but sparked into life on the hour when Malcolm crossed for Pierre Joseph-Dubois to convert from close range to make it 2-1.

Soon after Bromley were awarded a penalty for a foul on Harding, but after Mike Jones and Harding had argued over the taking of the kick Jones eventually hit the bar.

Within seconds though they were awarded another spot kick when the impressive Rhule was brought down. This time Harding tucked the penalty away, but tellingly no other player celebrated with him.

Howard made a great save from Nathan Nyafli on a rare Gills attack, while Malcolm, Harding and Sanchez Ming brought out great saves from Daren Hawkes.

Late on Dubois had a goal disallowed for a foul on Hawkes before the open and engaging game came to an end.

The Ravens now travel to Tonbridge Angels in the next round.
